After a delay opening in the ice rink due to Hurricane Zeta, ice skating at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum has returned for the winter season. Skating enthusiasts to beginners are welcome to hit the ice. Admission is $13 and includes ice skate rental. The rink is open to skaters two to four times a day in 90-minute time slots from now until January 17th. Hours for skating vary each day and is subject to change. COVID safety protocols have also been put in place, the number of people per session has been limited and masks are required whenever not physically skating. For two local high school students, ice skating has given them a way to safely gather with friends and celebrate the holiday season. CCA Student Laila Phillips said, "I always wanted to go skating. I've been roller skating before, but we're doing a Friendsgiving thing and they suggested that so I didn't want to be like 'no.' But my senior trip is next year and we usually go ice skating, so I just want a little bit of practice. Just a little bit." CCA Student Sommer Franklin said, "Well this is my first Friendsgiving. So, our first Friendsgiving as a group. And COVID has definitely changed the plans a couple of times. We went from actually having it at one of our houses to we ended up having it at Olive Garden and then coming here." Franklin’s advice to skaters is to bring a buddy to hang on to. « Less
