An 11-year-old Albuquerque boy has died from complications from the H1N1 flu virus. The Department of Health reports that the boy died Sunday and had been hospitalized at university of New Mexico Hospital since October 11. According to the health department, the boy had a chronic, underlying medical condition that put him at risk of complications. “This tragedy should remind every New Mexican that influenza can cause serious complications and even death so it is important for everybody to follow the prevention guidelines to minimize the spread of the disease,” said Health Secretary Alfredo Vigil in a press release. The department reports that there have been 22 deaths related to H1N1 influenza. People with underlying health conditions are being urged to seek the H1N1 vaccine from their primary health care providers. The Department of health has ordered 124,000 doses of nasal and injectable vaccine and expected to receive 1.2 million doses by January. « Less
