A spokesman for Wisconsin Govenor Jim Doyle has said his office is "not denying" a published report that Doyle has told his associates that he will make an announcement saying he won't seek re-election for his current post of governor in 2010. A news release says he will make an announcement about his future on Monday. Politico.com reports that Doyle made the decision not to go after a third term because he saw the difficulty of a race next year and that he wanted to avoid another political campaign. Approval numbers for Doyle, as listed by the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute, have fallen below 40%. Among the list of candidates Politico considers as possible to run on the Democratic side are Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, U.S. Representative Ron Kind and State Senator Joe Erpenbach. Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and former U.S. Representative Mark Neumann have each chosen to run for the Republican nomination. « Less
