Kosovo's ethnic Albanians have a spot in their hearts for the United States, whose soldiers are still viewed as liberators in the service of the province's freedom. In 1999, the US-led NATO bombing campaign on Belgrade's forces ended a Serbian offensive against Albanian separatists. Bill Clinton, then the US president, and his allies became local heroes. Eight years after the war the pro-American feeling is still going strong.
