He says the 2006 State Golf Tournament is his most memorable moment, and that's when Shane Feist helped lead Century to a third place finish... but after a life changing summer... he's doing what he can to make even MORE memorable moments. " Golf isn't just a hobby for Shane Feist... (Lynn Gress:) He's a grinder and worked hard for every stroke out there and was smart on the golf course and a good team player. its helped him go to college at Missouri Western State... and someday, it may help him put food on the table. (Shane Feist:) That would be the ultimate goal. (laughs) But golf is the furthest thing from his mind... as Feist is in fight with cancer. (Shane Feist:) I had back pain from it and didn't know what it was and tried to play through back pain all summer and found out what it was from obviously. Just after turning 21 and just after winning the NDGA Stroke Play Championship, Feist found a lump... doctors found it to be testicular cancer... and found that it had spread into his lymphnodes. (Shane Feist:) A lot of things go through your head when you find out, but at the same time, you say that you're going to beat it and it isn't going to be a problem and obviously, you know Lance Armstrong's story and its a very inspiring story and this can be beaten and that's the way I look at it and there's no other choice and no other option. His competitiveness on the course, has carried over off of it. Unlike other opponents...he can't see this one... but just like the all others....he's here to win. (Shane Feist:) My family's medical history is clean, I still have three grandparents and in this type of cancer, they haven't found a link to anything. No known causes for it or anything or hereditary and its rare and its luck of the draw basically. Support has come from all over. clubhouses and coaches, family and friends. Both Prairie West and Hawktree have even held benefits... as everyone holds out hope. (Lynn Gress:) He's a young kid and he's strong and he loves life and he loves golf and I know he wants to get back to college and get back on the golf team there and show that there are survivors out there in cancer, unfortunately, we don't hear enough about them...but they are out there. (Shane Feist:) There is a very good chance that I am going to beat it and once I do beat it, I will be older and stronger and ready to play better golf, with basically, another year under my belt, competing against the college kids down there and hopefully, it will help me out. " Feist is sitting out his senior season on a medical redshirt... but things are looking up. After his first cycle of chemo, his 'tumor marker levels' dropped about 300 points. Feist is still around his favorite sport, working at the Golf Dome. « Less
