Master William Ting's Wednesday evening Advanced T'ai Chi class went accordingly to plan. What was different about it was my participation in it. T'ai Chi, an ancient Chinese martial art, teaches self-defense training, but most people practice it for its health benefits. It improves quality of life, maintains physical health, increases a persons mental awareness, and enhances spiritual serenity. At Lyceum Hall Center for the Arts, Ting focuses on Wu Ji Jing Gong Form, which is characterized by slow, gentle, circular movements with a strong emphasis on awareness of internal energy. "I came to the United States and in the beginning I didn't think Americans would lile these things (T'ai Chi) because it's too slow," said Silver Tiger T'ai Chi Master William Ting. "The culture is different here--everything is faster, but we do things slow." To learn more about T'ai Chi and to hear from locals who practice the art, watch reporter Amanda King's video. « Less
