The 4th of July is a time for fireworks and outdoor grilling. But for a Minot man Independence Day means so much more. Perry Olson introduces us to a man who has a front seat picked out for a big unveiling in Roosevelt Park... As Bill Kolb admires the Medal of Honor Memorial...an impressive word comes to his mouth. It is a magnificent thing. The memorial is almost complete now...the only jobs left are a little landscaping...and the placement of the bronze plaques telling the stories of the 18 medal winners from North Dakota. It has been a long hard trail but it has paid off. Kolb has spearheaded the effort to raise the funds needed to make this a reality. It was hard work...but as he says... It has been worth it! Lots of sleepless nights but when it all comes together...wow...what a great thing! Checks for thousands of dollars have come in but he says the effort to raise money can best be summed up with a different story. I had a lady walk up to me. Her husband served in WWII and she gave me five dollars. That was all she had but that is the type of reception we've had. That five dollars and thousands more have built this...and this Vietnam vet is thrilled to see it come to a completion. I am very proud and pleased with what we have today.
