a major facelift for an historic roadway in the south valley -- bridge boulevard. stuart dyson reports on what the future could bring. "no - bridge boulevard isn't nob hill - but county planners and a lot of valley dwellers agree that there's plenty of room for improvement on this major thoroughfare that to many people is the gateway to the south valley." the barelas bridge was the original river crossing. for decades it was route 66. bridge boulevard always carried a heavy traffic load. and it still does today. county planners are thinking broader sidewalks - big shady trees and benches - development guidelines for restaurants and shops - business designs that evoke the road's history. they're thinking this should look more like this. and many in the valley agree. " i think it's actually a good idea - it's pretty amazing that they're really gonna do something about the community - and it's a good thing." " i think that's really great and they should make albuquerque everywhere nice - not only bridge - but bridge will be a step forward to making everywhere else nice." " the facelift i think should start with the public sector first because i think it'll help drive improving the businesses that are adjacent to that location - if we do that it's like a magnet - it'll draw better business opportunities." we're talking about bridge from the river - west past five points to goff road. "this project is still in its infancy - early in the planning stage - the county held a public meeting in april - another one is in the works for june - property owners will be invited « Less
