two northeast albuquerque public schools were forced to lock down this morning because of a swat standoff nearby. austin reed is live from our newsroom-- with more on how parents and students managed. austin? hoover middle school and john baker elementary school were the ones affected. and the lockdown wasn't lifted for close to two hours. it was all over a domestic dispute between a husband and wife. shortly after seven this morning, police were called to the corner of holiday and tivoli...which is right near hoover middle school. john baker is right behind that school. police say the couple got into a heated argument, and the husband would not allow his wife outside the house. police were called. when they arrived, she was able to get out safely... but authorities say her husband barricaded himself inside with some kind of firearm. numerous streets were minute thumbnail 12:05 pm blocked off...and parents and kids were forced to stay at home until the lockdown ended... a big inconvenience for many ... i couldn't find out what blocked off...and parents and kids work it is a little concerning to have something like this happen so close to a school, i'm just glad the school and authorities took care of it by nine:15-- both schools re-opened and the suspect gave up... and was taken into police custody. a-p-s says they did send out text alerts to parents, keeping them updated. no word on who the man is, or what kind of chargehe is now facing. live in the newsroom. austin reed, eyewitness news 4 midday  « Less
