The second phase of the Mitchell Street Project has begun, limiting accessibility to downtown Cadillac businesses. Despite limited access, business owners seem to understand the nessesity of the project. "I'm well aware what the implications are, and that we had to do it because we got the grant. If we didn't do it this year, the grant will be gone," Hermann Suhs, owner of Hermann's European Cafe, told Local Edition. Although the project had to be completed, the construction does make it inconvenient to get around downtown. However, the businesses we talked to haven't seemed to feel a backlash yet. "I have not personally heard any complaints. I think everyone was a little apprehensive before it started, but I think now that we're in the middle of it, M-DOT and the city did a really good job of keeping us informed ahead of time," said Kitti Persson, owner of Saturn Gems. The project will continue throughout the summer, with completion scheduled to take place in October.  « Less
