As summer approaches... Fuel prices appear to be creeping up as well... But as our Amber Schatz explains... One group of drivers is seeing a welcome trend at the pump. (20:45) andamp;quot;I think the most I paid was $128.andamp;quot; For drivers with big trucks... Last summer's diesel fuel prices were a pain at the pump. (15:35) andamp;quot;Last summer like 110-115, now 60 or 70.andamp;quot; Along with paying about half the high of last summer.... For the first time in a long time... drivers using diesel are paying less per gallon... than gasoline. (Paul Carlson/andamp;lt;a href=andamp;quot;http://www.kxnet.com/t/minnesotaandamp;quot; class=andamp;quot;kxInlineLinkandamp;quot;andamp;gt;Minnesotaandamp;lt;/aandamp;gt; 20:12) andamp;quot;2003 I bought this truck, diesel had always been cheaper than gasoline and about a month after I bought it, it flipped and it's been that way ever since until recently.andamp;quot; According to Triple-A... Average diesel prices in andamp;lt;a href=andamp;quot;http://www.kxnet.com/t/north-dakotaandamp;quot; class=andamp;quot;kxInlineLinkandamp;quot;andamp;gt;North Dakotaandamp;lt;/aandamp;gt; round to 2 dollars and 30 cents... For regular... 2.45. A 15 cent difference that some drivers say helps them out for a change. (Keith Stotz/andamp;lt;a href=andamp;quot;http://www.kxnet.com/t/dickinson-ndandamp;quot; class=andamp;quot;kxInlineLinkandamp;quot;andamp;gt;Dickinsonandamp;lt;/aandamp;gt; 11:53) andamp;quot;I think for the economy in North Dakota, it's better if it goes up to where it levels off, not way down low or way high, I don't want to see it go up like it did last summer.andamp;quot; (Mike Rud/Petroleum Marketers Association 7:41) andamp;quot; You're not shipping by rail right now, you're not shipping overseas with boats and you're not running the trucks up and down roads like you used to, and as a result, you've seen a downturn in the economy and the demand for diesel fuel has followed that.andamp;quot; Diesel and andamp;lt;a href=andamp;quot;http://www.kxnet.com/t/gasoline-pricesandamp;quot; class=andamp;quot;kxInlineLinkandamp;quot;andamp;gt;Gas Pricesandamp;lt;/aandamp;gt; are still at least 1.50 below what they were last year... But as far as how long this trend will last... it depends on supply and demand... and hopefully not speculation. (Carlson 21:43) andamp;quot; They're jumping back up because speculators are out trying to make money.andamp;quot; (Rud 9:45) andamp;quot; It's all going to be dictated by economy and what happens in the economy, there's not question about that, if economy heals faster than what people are anticipating it will, you may see a spike again just because people are out moving, that's good for U.S. Amber Schatz, KX News. According to the Energy Information Administration... In May of last year, Americans were paying 4.43 per gallon for diesel fuel. « Less
