"Terminator Salvation" 2 stars Rated PG-13 1 hour 55 minutes Christian Bale Sam Worthington Moon Bloodgood Bryce Dallas Howard Michael Ironside Anton Yelchin What I want to know, where's Arnold Schwarzenegger when this latest "Terminator" episode really needs him? The nuts and bolts of this doomsday showdown between men and machines should be pretty familiar by now. But without Schwarzenegger except for a few seconds of his computer generated cameo, the film falls flat. Trying to save the remnants of mankind from a future race of mechanical killers has left Christian Bale overly paranoid. Sam Worthington emerges back to the future as a man with a mission. But instead of treachery, his mechanized insides contain a heart of gold. either Bale's suffering from a severe case of post nasal drip, or he felt his raspy delivery was appropriate method acting. The grim landscape could have been left over from Mel Gibson's "Mad Max" movies. The film certainly makes a strong argument against investing machines with artificial intelligence. "Terminator Salvation" also makes a strong argument against using a Director whose more at home with spectacular action scenes, than trying to keep his actors from speaking their lines like mechanical robots. The picture's much too one dimensional to have you caring about any of the characters. As the potential savior of mankind, Bale doesn't register much of an impression. And without Arnold Schwarzenegger coming to the rescue of "Terminator Salvation", it's not humanly possible to crank up more than 2 stars. Once and for all, this clunker should terminate the Terminator.  « Less
