A group of local students recently had the rare opportunity to present their research at a professional science conference. Four chemistry students from Northwestern Michigan College recently attended a meeting of the American Chemical Society, held in the Chicago area. The students presented their research on "Plasma Generation in Flowing Nitrogen;" their presentation was one of about 250 made by investigators from the industrial community, universities, and government laboratories. Mary Jo Elliott, a Chemistry Instructor at NMC, said that it's very unusual for undergraduate research projects to be presented at a professional conference such as the one held by the American Chemical Society. Elliott went on to say that the students did a great job and generated a lot of audience participation. And the student participation at the recent science conference isn't the only big news from NMC... the college recently announced that they've joined Twitter, a form of online communication that's quickly growing in popularity.
