For some Traverse City area residents, going green is getting cheaper, thanks to the work of a local electric company. Traverse City Light and Power is encouraging its customers to switch from traditional light bulbs to more efficient compact fluorescent bulbs. To help customers pay for the new bulbs, the power company is including four $2-off coupons with customers' current bills. The coupons are good at numerous local retailers. Compact Fluorescent bulbs use about 75 percent less energy than traditional bulbs, and they last ten times longer. According to those at Traverse City Light and Power, this leads to energy savings and benefits the environment, while at the same time lowering customers' electric bills. « Less
