A local hospital has some new additions, and they're hoping those additions will reduce injuries and improve patient safety. Mercy Hospital in Cadillac recently received a grant totaling over $150,000 to support their "Safe Lifting Project." The grant money was used to purchase ceiling-mounted patient lifts, which have been installed in every ICU room as well as two Acute Care Service rooms. According to the hospital, the lifts will provide a safe, smooth and effortless way to transfer, turn or move patients; they'll also allow more flexibility in the type of patient that can be transferred. The hospital said that the new lifts will dramatically reduce the number of caregiver injuries resulting from the handling of patients. While numerous lifts have already been installed; the hospital plans to continue the project in the near future with the installation of patient lifts in their telemetry and Special Care units. « Less
