Cystic Fibrosis... it's a very debilitating disease, and right now, there's no cure. An annual event held at the Cadillac Grill is working to change that by raising money to help fund research for a cure, all while giving attendees an enjoyable evening. "Tonight is the sixth annual 65 Roses Dinner Dance," explained Mike Filkins, a member of the Cadillac Cystic Fibrosis Committee, "The Cystic Fibrosis foundation has, for a number of years, had a '65 Roses' event set up for fundraising." That event featured a variety of activities, all working toward a good cause. "We'll have a wonderful prime rib sit-down dinner for this semi-formal event," Filkins said, "There's also a jazz trio that will perform during dinner. There's a silent auction that people are looking at while people are beginning to gather. The auction is made up of donated items from local artists, stores, and so on... people can bid on those items throughout the evening." While there was plenty of entertainment at the "65 Roses" event, the cause the fundraiser was working for was never forgotten. "Our goal from the very first year we held this was to look for a cure for this," Filkins stated. And a great show of community support has helped that goal to come a long way. "We've got another hundred and eighty people here tonight, so we're very happy about the support from the community." The local Cystic Fibrosis committee does plan to hold another fundraiser next year; that will be their seventh annual dinner and dance fundraiser.  « Less
