Stiff winds ignited a fast moving brush fire in far west travis county friday. Several homes and livestock were in jeopardy in the area around Cordill Lane, near Spicewood. The blaze sprang up around 4:30, fanned by brisk breezes. Pedernales, Lake Travis and Austin Firefighters scrambled to the scene, and caught the flames as they were getting extremely close to the edge of the million dollar estate. Chief Warren said, "it got right up to the slab or foundation of the structure. We had to brush it out quick and knock it down, once we did that we were able to concentrate on the rest of the fire." There is no outdoor burning allowed in central texas right now. Be careful with all flammables and cigarettes. With the worst drought we've seen in 50 years, wildfires like this could spring up at any time.  « Less
