A local gymnastics team is off to a good start for 2009. The Grand Traverse Bay YMCA Level 5 girls gymnastics team won the Twistars meet, held in Lansing in early January. The meet has been called "prestigious," but it's not the only meet the team has recently won. The girls gymnastics team also won at the Kalamazoo State Qualifier. The team won by a full three points with a score of 144.3, capturing six of the top ten places in the "All Around" scoring. The YMCA's Level 6 gymnastics team also placed at the Kalamazoo State Qualifier; they took third place at the meet. The YMCA's Gymnastics team will travel to IGI in Chicago in early February for the world's largest invitational meet; that meet will be held at Navy Pier and will feature competition from throughout the world.  « Less
