We're now a good few hours into our election result coverage, and a few major issues have now been decided. Before we bring you the latest on key local issues, we have a major development in the Presidential race. Based on the election results that have been finalized so far, we've determined that Barack Obama has defeated Senator John McCain in the 2008 Presidential Election, and will become the next president of the United States of America. Over the past hours, McCain congratulated Obama, saying that "the american people have spoken." With the outcome of the presidential race determined, we now move on to local issues. The first of these issues is the "Recreation Millage" in Wexford County, which we've just learned has passed. 7,576 voters voted for the millage, with 7,442 voting against it. This millage will help to fund the Wexford County Civic center over the coming years. Moving on to statewide issues, we begin with Proposal 1. Proposal 1 would legalize the use of medicinal marijuana; currently, 64% of voters said "yes" to the proposal, with 36% voting "no." 42% of precincts are currently reporting, and based on the trends we've seen throughout the evening we here at Local Edition are predicting that this proposal will be passed. Moving on to Proposal 2, we're still seeing a close race. Proposal 2 would allow for expansion of stem cell research in Michigan; current results show that 53% of voters are for the proposal and 47% are against it. 42% of precincts are reporting, and at this time this race is too close for us to call.
