East Providence teachers have voted to continue working even though their contract has expired. The teachers union voted unanimously on Sunday to keep working under terms of the contract that expired Friday while negotiators meet with the city on a new deal. The vote by about 500 members of the East Providence Education Association came during an hourlong meeting. A meeting later this week will include three arbitrators, one representing each of the parties and a neutral party. They will hear competing arguments and come up with a proposed agreement. The findings will not be binding. School committee negotiator Anthony Carcieri says he is encouraged by the teachers' vote. « Less
