Its that time of the year, when leaves are falling off the trees and covering the roads. Tonight in Weather Extra, Ryan talks about some weather driving dangers. Fall is a beautiful time of year. I mean who doesn't love the bright colors on the trees and the crisp cool air? The only problems that come with fall are days like Tuesday... When the rain falls and coats the roads and the leaves on the roads with water. Rain is a very good thing, but the combination of water and leaves on roadways can make for dangerous driving. Why is it so dangerous? As it rains, the water starts to wash up some of the oil droplets left on the roads from passing cars. The oil floating on top of the water gets washed down the road and can get in between the leaves. The slick mixture gets between the leaves and the waxy surfaces of the leaves can create a surface with even less friction. So if you are trying to stop over a bed of wet leaves.... {skid} Fall isn't quite over and there can still be a few more rainy days in our future. And if leaves are on the roads, and it is any bit wet out, be careful. Make sure you take extra time to stop just in case your car starts to slide.
