education is their business- and business is booming. This fall, Dickinson State University marked its 13th year of record-breaking enrollment. And it's not just students from the Peace Garden State pushing those numbers ever higher. This year, 433 international students from more than 30 countries?in classrooms across the DSU campus. Why did they decide to come to North Dakota? THEY'VE ALL COME FOR DIFFERENT REASONS Milena Brkic, Serbia/ 21:24 I wanted to come to America and study and I wasn't sure where to go so I just sent my application for a couple of schools. Silvia Vigier, France/27:13 I wanted to do a masters at first and then I heard we could get the opportunity to get a scholarship to play Volleyball. Ulsbold Enkhbold, Mongolia/ 32:33 I like the way institutions in the U.S. work. A LOT OF PEOPLE FROM OVERSEAS LIKING THE WAY D-S-U WORKS. IN 1999, JUST 20 STUDENTS CAME FROM COUNTRIES OTHER THAN THIS ONE. THIS YEAR - MORE THAN FOUR-HUNDRED STUDENTS SIT IN CLASSROOMS ACROSS CAMPUS. Dr. Richard McCallum/Pres. Dickinson State University 39:57 I think what has happened over the years is that students who have come and had a great experience 40:03 have been able to go home and talk to their parents and their friends and that word of mouth has been a great effort to our recruiting effort. 40:14 JUST FROM BEING HERE-STUDENTS GET A DEGREE IN INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION AND CULTURE? Dr. Richard McCallum/Pres. Dickinson State University 43:28 Our international perspectives are part of the fabric of what occurs here at our university. 43:39 IN THE CLASSROOM, IN THE DORM ROOM, OR JUST WALKING AROUND CAMPUS. Silvia Vigier/France: 29:35 My roommates are from different countries. Last year, I was with a Jamaican girl, and a girl from Mongolia, one from America and we had a chance to cook sometimes together and just to share different things. 29:47 Ulsbold Enkhbold/ 33:57, the whole U.S. community is a different world from where I'm from 34:02 Milena Brkic/Serbia: 24:09 I never expected I would meet so good people here and make friends so fast, so I would say that their spirit is really really good. IT'S THAT SPIRIT SAYS UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS THAT DRAWS PEOPLE TO D-S-U FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE. Jason Torreano, K-X NEWS. Total numbers now-fall enrollment stands at 2730 students at D-S-U. That's up 2 percent from last year. « Less
