A couple journalists from Germany are in North Dakota this week. They've been here before - but they're back again to see-and of course to write-about places to go in the U-S that are off the beaten path for most tourists. We caught up with them recently. Bringing the world to North Dakota Peter Kraencle/German Journalist: We try to tell them there are a lot of different places, and different kind of America - that's not the usual America with McDonalds and Budweiser. And North Dakota to the world Margit Brinke/German Journalist: It's not crowded at all. This makes it interesting sort of. Most Germans don't know anything about North Dakota yet. Margit and Peter are on a whirlwind tour of the Peace Garden State until Saturday. Peter Kraencle/German Journalist: There are really so many things to learn and try to tell people over in Germany so that they get another perspective of the American people because they think they're all the same. Jason Torreano/Reporting: One of Peter and Margit's many stops during their week-long visit to North Dakota was here at Papa's Pumpkin Patch. They'll be writing about their visit for a German travel magazine all with the hopes of bringing international tourists to the Peace Garden State. Fred Walker is the International Marketing Director for North Dakota tourism and says our state can compete with the likes of New York and California-we just have something different to offer. Fred Walker/International Marketing Director - ND Tourism: People think that we're America. And the fall festival where families come out and take part in a great event is something they really see as an American event. It may be that small-town American feel that's appealing - but Margit says there's something else that is great about this state. Margit Brinke/German Journalist (In German) That's German for wide-open spaces? Margit and Peter have visited nearly every state in the U-S. The rest of their North Dakota trip includes the Enchanted Highway, Fort Beaufort, as well as Minot and the Peace Gardens before they head to Grand Forks on Saturday to go back to Germany. « Less
