The Minot State men's and women's Golf teams will host their lone conference meet of the season this Sunday and Monday. 9 players are out for the men's team who currently holds a 2 point lead over Dickinson in the standings in the split seaason that concludes in the spring. The men come in as the defending conference champion and return the tournament MVP in Jordan Kelly. Dwight Chipper Farrell, MSU golf coach:Jordan Kelly's again leading the pack. Jordan's the number one player in the conference, has been the MVP the last two years, going for three in a row this year so I guess we kind of overlook him sometimes I mean he's a good player, you expect it. We have Justin Aberle also all-conference is back. We have a transfer named Carter Hilkewich who was all conference at Dickinson whose been playing real well and then we have one of our returners from last year, Ben Edwards is playing real well. Tied Jordan in the last tournament for medalist and he's really been playing well. Jordan Kelly, junior:Things are looking really great. We've got a solid team. We got 3-4 pretty solid players. You know that fifth spot everyone's battling. Anybody can play. Justin Aberle, junior:The depth, such a strong nucleus, I mean Carter's here, Jordan's back. Jordan's always playing well. Carter's a great player so. Ben's got his game together now so things are looking pretty good. Meanwhile the women's team is also having plenty of success this season led by the conference MVP, Whitney Stanley. Farrell:As usual, the Whitney Stanley show. I give her a hard time about that but Whitney's a solid player for us. Played real good a week ago and then just really struggled at Jamestown. Obviously the weight is kind of on her shoulders. We've had four other young ladies step in there and the possibility that we could actually win a conference tournament when we didn't even have a women's team two years ago, we have an opportunity. Whitney Stanley, junior:We got a bunch of good girls you know that can shoot low 80's. It makes it so that we're in the mix with all the girls. Action begins at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Souris Valley Golf Course and will conclude on Monday at the Minot Country Club. « Less
