The 39th annual United Tribes Technical College International Powwow is set for this weekend south of Bismarck. Hundreds of dancers will perform for the audience throughout the weekend. This morning, a few of those dancers took some time to teach area students about their dance and culture. About 12-hundred students from Bismarck-Mandan and surrounding communities are taking part in youth day. Organizers of the powwow say this is one of the most important events each year. (Julie Cain/ Youth Day) Its all based on respect to respect each others cultures and knowing that there are native americans in their schools and learn what their rich heritage is and to learn about them and respect. This year's featured performers are from the Sami (saw-me) Culture. It features a father and her two daughters who represent the culture of the indigenous European people. They will be performing at six tomorrow evening and three-thirty on Sunday afternoon. « Less
