Cam 2 Good afternoon, Thanks for joining us. It's a big surprise for many farmers right now from the field. Early harvest reports from around Minot are showing an above average crop..... and in some cases a great crop. Minot SunPrairie Grain Manager, Brad Haugeberg, says all summer long producers were expecting.. at best... an average return from the field because of dry conditions early-on in spring planting and a dry spell in mid-summer. Haugeberg says much of the barley is now off the fields in this part of the state and a good portion of it made the malting grade. (Brad Haugeberg, Minot SunPrairie Grain Mgr.) We were thinking we were going to see a lot of thin barley and a lot of feed barley as it turned it was just the opposite. A higher percentage of malt barley which was a very welcome surprise. VO CONTINUES Haugeberg says the early wheat numbers are also looking good. He says bushels and test weights are up along with quality and it won't take long until elevators in this area are going to be overflowing with grain, no matter how fast they get rail cars to haul it away. (Brad Haugeberg, Minot SunPrairie Grain Mgr.) We're going to get full and we're going to get full probably long before we're on the tail end of harvest. It today's world these combines they are so and there are so many big trucks I mean they can literally bury us. So you if you had a tremendous availability of cars you still probably couldn't get cars fast enough. These farmers are so efficient today they can take it off so fast they can just cover us up. Farmers are currently taking a break in the field thanks to a few storms that dropped a mixed amount of rain throughout the area on Thursday and Friday. While the harvest news around Minot is better than expected, there are areas to the west and southwest that are reporting harvest numbers well below average. WEATHER!!!  « Less
