For the first time in a long time, the U-Mary Football team will take the field tonight...except their opponents won't be a squad from a different school - it'll be themselves. The second annual 'Meet the Marauders' scrimmage is this evening at the Community Bowl, which will feature 'the Blue' against 'the White' in 'game-like' situations. Even though its not an official contest, with the public in attendence, the program's gearing up for a great night. (Myron Schulz:) 'Meet the Marauders' is a great concept. Number one, our players are getting ready for game day and it is like a dress rehersal and if you were putting on a play, that is exactly what it is and what helps us is that we have the officials there and we are going to get used to that new 40-second clock and the next thing is that we will have a few people in the stands so that when it comes to next week, they are not a distraction to us and we are used to them being there and we feed off of them, as opposed to starring at them and watching them more than the game. (Shawn Melland:) It is a good thing for the players because it is a game like experience and and we treat it like game day - everything from getting up in the morning and the meals we eat and everything - so, it is a good thing to shake the rust off so that we know what we are doing next week come game time. They're already tailgating up at 'the Bowl' and kickoff is set for less than an hour from now at 7:00 p.m. central. There's no cost. U-Mary will open up the regular season in less than two weeks when they host Chadron State on August 28th.  « Less
