In the middle of harvest...it's hard to think about anything else than getting your own crop in the bin. Good Afternoon, I am Sarah Gustin, Thanks for joining us. But in western North Dakota some producers are putting their own crops aside...to help one farmer who just can't be in the combine right now. When neighbors pull together...the straw flies and the hoppers fill. (Roger Wilson / Injured) When you stop and think...it s harvest time for everybody and that they are willing to shut down and come over here that just about brings tears to your eyes just the feeling that it gives you, something that is just really hard to explain unless you experience it. You see Wilson lost part of his arm in a farm accident...just 10 days ago. (Roger Wilson / Injured) Walked over to the side of the machine, kicked the lever to dump the rock trap, looked under while nothing fell out, so i crawled under and just brushed it, to get that stuff to fall out, kinda brushed it once and nothing happened and i brushed it again a little harder and that is when it grabbed my hand....it was all over in a matter of seconds. Now 12 combines, numerous trucks, grain carts, augers and 75 willing workers...are making sure Wilson's crops gets in the bin...and one day is all it takes. (Dan Christman / Neighbor Helping) We could have twenty, twenty-five machines here. That is how many people want to come over here to help this guy that has been in the community forever and is a very good frneds wth the whole communty. (Lacey Christman / Helping Neighbor) And just knowing that all of your neighbors who are busy doing there stuff, set aside their own for today to help ths great man out is just, be there, it's just really touching. But don't worry, once a farmer...always a farmer. Wilson isn't planning on letting this farm accident slow him down. (David Merwin / Helping Neighbor) It would be really easy to get down, maybe on yourself and what you do. And think when people come together and help like that it not only gets the job of getting the harvest done, but it gives him a huge lift. (Roger Wilson / Injured in Accident) Like I told a neighbor here the other day, I said Well, I can go back in the corner of the shop in a dark hole and feel sorry for myself, but you ain't going to get no where doing that.. Local Hettinger and Lemmon businesses covered all fuel expenses. And about 35 women helped prepare sack lunches and supper. « Less
