Tomorrow starts two solid weeks of baseball in Minot like the Magic City hasn't seen in years. The State Class 'A' Legion tournament gets underway, then next week, the best in the midwest will be here for the National Legion Central Plains tournament. One of the state's best parks is ready for that action, thanks to volunteer hours, and a man who has called the ballpark home for decades. Perry Olson has the story. (Perry Olson - KX News) Mike Littler has called Corbett Field home for most of his life...whether it be playing on it, or now taking care of it...the head groundskeeper knows the way it looks today, has never been topped. (Mike Littler - Head Groundkeeper) When we start Wednesday it will be in the best shape and the nicest condition that I have ever seen it myself. (Perry Olson - KX News) Littler says the playing surface has never looked better, but the entire park got a make-over for these two tournaments. (Mike) Started with the pressbox that will be good for media, it has been painted on the outside and in, and we have added bleachers and a new cement area that will be one of the more unique features for a baseball park in North Dakota. All that work wasn't done by his dedicated crew however...that would have been impossible... (Mike) Not just the park district did the work. The parents of baseball here in the community have spent two or three long days Painting and cleaning and doing things that I wouldn't be able to get to. And that work has paid off in a big way...the stadium is stunning...a sight to see when spectators will enter through the old tunnel entrances which haven't been used for years... (Mike Littler - Head Groundskeeper) It is a clean facility, not a new facility, but it does play well and the players like it, so it makes me feel good when I do hear the compliments that I do get.
