Last nights thunderstorm made a mess of many peoples yards... But as Donnell Preskey found for some the damage is a lot worse than what they can pick up... This is what woke many of you up ThrUSDAy morning... Pouring rain and up to 75 mile an hour wind... Those speeds can do a lot of damage and by morning you could see it... For some it's a close up of the storm they'd rather not deal with... The top of this tree sits in the street after being yank out by the roots... (Elmer) it took a good straight wind to grab that tree and knock it over like that... I would guess it was 70 miles an hour or better. While it's a big mess if there's any place Madler would want this tree to fall this would be it... The old tree missed this vehicle by just an inch... (Elmer) just glad it went that way instead of over the house. While tears have been shed over this tree's fateful fall Tina Kambeitz says the same thing at least it didn't hit the house. This tree split and toppled over on her garage... It broke through the roof and crushed down on the van parked inside. - nat chain saw - Tree crews weren't waisting time getting at mother natures mess... Azariah with A-1 Tree Service says sometimes it doesn't matter how healthy your trees are strong straight lines winds will take them down... (Azariah Efimenko / A-1 Tree Service) you can clean up the middles that will help wind blow through them better... but with winds had last night, i'm surprised there's most of these trees aren't down. They're finishing the job the wind started the tree was split in half when the crew got here... (A-1 Tree Service) weak connection and splits - two growing next to each other and it splits in half. With the wind blowing - it'll rip the one that's down wind off and you end up with a mess. And it's a mess crews will be pickup up after for days to come... In Bismarck, Donnell Preskey, KX News... MDU crews are also putting in a long day restoring power to residents in the Bismarck Mandan area. This crew has been out since around 1 a.m. working on outages. MDU Spokesman Mark Hanson says about 7,000 customers were without power at the height of the storm. We saw a lot of damage from branches pulling wires off the lines. « Less
