Today in Business Beat, our first topic is the business of building homes and apartments in Minot. There's a demand for housing right now, as you can see by the number of companies that have obtained building permits. This year so far, 76 new homes have been built or are in the process of being constructed. Compared to 61 last year. And just look at the jump in apartments. 75 apartment units compared to one last year for the same time. Also, 15 condo units compared to 6 last year. Investors Real Estate Trust is putting up this complex near Dakota Square that will include apartment units, as well as some offices and retail. Senior Vice President Tom Wentz says 67 upper end apartments will be located on the 2nd and 3rd floor, with underground parking. The complex should be complete by October. Wentz who's been involved in various projects, says this is probably the best the Minot economy has been in his 25 years in business, that equates to a red hot housing and rental market. Behind the Pita Pit on South Broadway, you'll find a new store called Archers Elite Pro Shop. Darrin Mosser who worked at DHD sports before it closed, has purchased most of the inventory and opened his own store. He says archery is one of the fastest growing sports in the nation. This Minot native has archery supplies including many brands of bows, he custom builds bows, plus has an has area for test shooting. In front of Herbergers in Dakota Square where Deck the Walls used to be, new tenants are moving in. It will be the Varicose Vein Clinic with Dr. Ed Corpus. They will begin seeing patients next week. One reason for the move is that patients need to walk after the procedure so being in the mall is convenient. Uniform Fashions in the 20th Ave Mall is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Owner Linda Theobald started the business and still has it...she sells medical and restaurant apparel and shoes. She says when she started, uniforms used to be primarily white. Not any more, there's prints, various colors, and many more styles. For Business Beat Im Carla Burbidge CAM 1 - 2Shot / Break / Sports « Less
