For his last destination, Dan Erdmann headed south for a visit to the Knife River Indian Villages. This week, he's not traveling far, in fact he's staying right here in Minot for an event that's going on as we speak. He tells us how to make the most of your money once you enter the gates, in this weeks Dan's Destinations... (Dan Erdmann, KX News) Todays destination is the North Dakota State Fair, and you may be thinking that the fair is not a very affordable place to go, but to show you just how cheap it really can be, we're going to experience the fair the same way my dad would, so let's get going. (Dan Erdmann, KX News) There's all kinds of stuff to see and do at the fair, but we're going to focus mainly on the free stuff, which includes three commercial buildings, so let's go see what we have inside. (Dan Erdmann, KX News) Now if you keep an eye out when you're walking through the commercial buildings, there's all kinds of free stuff to take in, like this booth. What kind of stuff are you giving away here today? (Ann Riippa, Medora Marketor) Medora Musical t-shirts. Medora is number 1. (Dan Erdmann, KX News) What size t-shirt is that? (Ann Riippa) This is an XL. (Dan Erdmann) Perfect. (Ann Riippa) Every night of the fair, we're having a drawing to win two tickets to the Medora Musical. At the end we're having a grand prize- a full vacation in Medora. (Dan Erdmann, KX News) You can do a little relaxing and test your angling skills at Pathways to Fishing, which is also completely free. (Dan Erdmann) And while you're checking out some of the other free stuff, like the farm machinery, you might stumble across some other free attractions like these simulator rides. So, let's go inside and have some fun. (Chester Frank, John Klatt Airshows Inc.) The flight simulators are Microsoft Flight Simulator 10. You're flying an XR 300 today, so you just see if you're any good at flying. (Dan Erdmann, KX News) It's a good thing I didn't have any passengers. (Dan Erdmann) You can head into the air conditioned State Fair Center and check out all the 4-H, FFA, and school exhibits. (Dan Erdmann) Or you can check out one of the many free stages and shows running all throughout the day at the fair. It's Johnny Cash. (Dan Erdmann) And it might not be as much of a thrill, but you can take advantage of the fair's free rides. How's everybody's feet doing? Tired? (Dan Erdmann) And there's one more thing, probably the most important thing we have to do before we leave the fair, and that's mini doughnuts. Can I get a bag? How much? Thank you. From the North Dakota State Fair, I'm Dan Erdmann. And in traveling to his destination, Dan drove only 8 miles from our station to the fair and back, using four dollar gas, at twenty miles per gallon. Gate admission for two people was $14 plus an extra $5 for mini doughnuts. Total cost of this trip is around $20.60. « Less
