The state Racing Commission has decided not to use money from its breeders fund to supplement purses at live horse races in Fargo. Some state lawmakers earlier had questioned whether the practice was legal, and said it might be one reason for abolishing the Racing Commission and *transferring* its duties to the state Gaming Commission. Racing Commission chairman H. Patrick Weir said he thinks the practice was probably legal.... but politically unwise. The commission voted to allocate the more than one-hundred-thousand dollars earmarked for the North Dakota Horse Park in Fargo from the commission's purse fund rather than the breeders fund. The commission earlier gave $22,500 from the breeder's fund to the racing park in Belcourt. That allocation will not be changed.  « Less
