A World War Two Veteran finally gets the recognition he deserves. It's been 60 years since Laudie Hanel faught in World War II.And today Laudie is awarded a Bronz Star in Dickinson by Senator Byron Dorgan. Laudie's children then presented him with other metals of honor.Laudie Hanel/World War II Veteran) "It's good, I was surprised when I came in."(Harvey Hanel / son of Laudie Hanel)"Towards the end of his serivce career he had contracted yellow fever and so he was hosptialized when his unit was recieving some of the citations so he just never got them."The Bronze Star is awarded to American military veterans who served their country after December 6th, 1941 for heroic behavior.Hanel served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 in the Pacific. He fought in the Guadalcanal and also helped guard the American supply line to Australia.(Senator Byron Dorgan) "A grateful country is going to say to Laudie, many years after you served, this country is enormously proud of what you did for America."Hanel was a private 1st class in Company D of the 164th Infantry.  « Less
