He's been on the prowl out at the zoo over the past couple of weeks, and now he's checking out the cats, and these ones you can't pet! Here's Jungle Joe Goldade with his new safari hat. (Jungle Joe, KX News) Jungle Joe back out here at the Roosevelt Park Zoo. Today: the Top Dogs, or the Top Cats of the zoo. Let's go check them out! They're calm and relaxed. They're fun & playful. ((Bengal Tiger Roaring)) Oh, and don't forget, they're VERY active - They're the cats of the Roosevelt Park Zoo. (Dana Pritschet, Zoo Director) We have a very nice selection of large cats at the zoo. We have four species: we have the bengal tigers, the snow leopard, the amur leopard and the african lion as well. If you catch them at the right time they can be very active and very entertaining. (Jungle Joe, KX News) The cats' claws and jaws are excellent tools for hunting in the wild, but what do they eat here at the zoo? Thanks to the fence, not me! In fact, I couldn't even get close to outrunning this girl if I had to! (Dana Pritschet, Zoo Director) Feeding time is a very exciting time at the zoo. All of our cats are fed processed meat. We bring it in frozen and then thaw it out for them daily. When we bring them in to feed them at night, we have are very hands off with our cats. We never ever go in with the cats. They are fed through feeding trays and they love their meat. We feed them at night and they are very excited, very happy to get it every night. (Jungle Joe, KX News) One of the most active cats during my visit was the Connie the bengal tiger who strolled by me a couple of times, you know, just to say hi! ((Connie Roaring Loudly)) Hi there, Connie! I think it's time for me to go! Not quite as talkative this day, the amur leopards Natalia and Darius. Darius was outside soaking up a little sun and relaxing when I walked by, so I decided I'd leave him alone. Kumari, the snow leopard, was also a little tired when I came to visit. Plus, he was sticking his tounge out at me, so I moved on to the African Lions, Kiota and Jacera. Jacera was out and ready to play the game I like to call chase me around the cage, she won, of course! Low and behold, there it is! That's their tennis ball they play with! Jacera was hand raised and is very playful with people who come to visit her here at the zoo. And I found the least intimidating of the cats, probably the least active, too! All the rest of the cats are very active and ready to perform for you out here at the zoo. For now, I'm Jungle Joe at the Roosevelt Park Zoo! « Less
