Native Americans who served in the U-S Armed Forces in the 19th Century were honored today at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. The Central Barracks on Cavalry Square is home to the two room history display. It focuses on the Arikara scouts who gave their lives defending the U.S. flag to protect their way of life. (Matt Schanandore/Assistant Executive Director Fort Abarham Lincoln) we've got ten panals that we put up with hopes to even expand our exhibit more with the interpretation of Arikara scouts and particulary U.S. Scouts at all that served here at Fort Abraham Lincoln. The scouts provided intelligence about the land and it's people. They served as interpreters and military police. They also delivered U.S. Mail. (Dakota Goodhouse/Chief of Interpretation) It's important because it shares the story of American Indians and their contributions during the Indian wars. « Less
