Four-thousand-six-hundred-fifty. That is the weight in pounds of the wrecking ball that was flung over and over at the old Washington school today. Tear down of that building kicked into gear early this morning...Perry Olson talked with some of the teachers who called the school home and had gathered for the event and Perry Moll captured the stunning pictures... We have watched it everyday. They have been nice to us and let us see it and sit in our cars and shed a tear here or there. I have had people get bricks for kids. It means so much to them and they want a piece of it and a brick has been pretty easy. I got it! Is everyone that excited about your job?!? I thought about it and told my kids there are probably 10 thousand people who would want to be in that seat. A lot don't want to see it go...but I guess this is progress. I have spent nine years up there and it is hard to see it go. Lots of good memories. It has been a great building to work in. It is amazing. We found out the space shuttle blew up in this building and told the kids. Think about what went on in that building. That was a 4th grade room...yes. My grandfather used to work here and watch for enemy planes to fly over. He used to sit up there during the war. We had lots of good times here. But we will have lots of good times in the new school too. It should have been a field trip. My boys would have loved this. My girls probably wouldn't have but my boys would have. It is really going to change the face of Minot. It is kind of a landmark. You can see it off of Broadway and when you drive from Jim Hill...it was like a beacon for Minot...soon gone.  « Less
