IT'S STILL UNCLEAR TONIGHT WHAT KIND OF WILD CAT MAULED A 5 YEAR OLD BOY IN THE SANDIAS OVER THE WEEKEND. BUT TONIGHT WE HAVE VIDEO PROOF THERE ARE A LOT OF BIG CATS, BEARS AND OTHER PREDATORS UP IN THE MOUNTAINS. AND IN SOME PLACES WHERE YOU'D LEAST EXPECT IT---CAMERAS CLICKING AWAY, GADI SCHWARTZ IS HERE WITH THAT STORY. WAY PAST THE OLD BOMB BUNKERS AND THE CRASH TEST SITES ON KIRTLAND---TO THE EAST---IS NATIONAL LAB PROPERTY . WILD ANIMALS ROAM THOSE GROUNDS AND BIOLOGISTS ARE WORKING HARD TO KEEP THEM FAR FROM THEIR WORK PLACE---- WITH WATER AND A CAMERA. 4:22 when we come and do our initial evaluation of the sight we look for footprints to see what animals we have 17 MILES AWAY FROM SANDIA'S WORK AREAS-NEAR TIJERAS CANYON....STEPHANIE SALINAS CHECKS HER FAVORITE LABORATORY. 11:31 2 shot--- one of the things that we do is to make sure that when we are walking through this is looking for any of the scat we might see- document that information. BUT SALINAS HOPES THIS ISN'T THE ONLY SIGN BEARS LEFT BEHIND. THIS IS A CAMERA BIOLOGISTS HAVE STRAPPED TO A POLE TO CAPTURE WILDLIFE IN ACTION. 4:47 its a great scratching post so they will either nudge it or scratch it and we - we have had some occasions were the bears have taken the camera off and had some chew marks on them. DOE HAS SET UP 2 STATIONARY CAMERAS.... AND A FEW THEY CAN MOVE AROUND. TALK ABOUT GETTING UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL, 25:11 this is the one that i love where he is jumping into the water laughing. 28:11 and its almost some of these they are posing THE WATERING HOLES WERE PUT IN TO KEEP WILDLIFE LIKE MOUNTAIN LIONS FAR AWAY FROM LAB WORK SITES. 28:45 there we have the three mountain lions there at night 28:59 usually when we see these groups its the female with her juveniles. MOVEMENT IN THE MOUNTAINS---SOMET HING YOU DON'T USUALLY SEE---AIMED AT MAKING SURE MAN AND WILDLIFE CAN CO-EXIST WITHOUT GETTING IN EACH OTHER'S WAY. 28:37 just another one of those perfect kind of shots YOU ARE PROBABLY WONDERING WHAT HAPPENS IF ANY OF THOSE BIG ANIMALS COME DOWN INTO POPULATED AREAS- SANDIA OFFICIALS SAY THEY HAVE A NO KILL POLICY SO THEY TRY AND SHOOT FOR RELOCATION. BACK TO YOU. THE BOY ATTACKED IN THE SANDIAS LAST WEEKEND IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A FEW MORE DAYS. 5 YEAR OLD JOSE SALAZAR JUNIOR IS NOW IN SATISFACTORY CONDITION. SALAZAR'S SCALP WAS NEARLY TORN OFF WHEN A WILD CAT DRAGGED HIM OFF A TRAIL DURING A HIKE WITH HIS PARENTS. TODAY, THE SALAZARS ARE OPENING AN ACCOUNT AT WELLS FARGO ... FOR ANYONE WHO'D LIKE TO MAKE A DONATION TO HELP PAY FOR THE BOY'S HOSPITAL « Less
