Local Law Enforcement receive an award for their work on domestic violence cases. The Abused Adult Resource Center is recognizing twenty-two officers with the badge of hope. This is an award given to officers who take some extra time in dealing with domestic violence situations. Shian Wessels is a domestic violence survivor. She says everyday she has to live with the experience and worry about her attacker coming back to hurt her again. She says the support she received from the local law enforcement is the reason she is still here today. (Shian Wessels/ Domestic Violence Survivor) not everyone is receptive but when they are you are there and that is all that matters. For when they need you your fight begins and theirs ends. Only they can make the decision of when it is time to let go. But you can protect them if they do. Dont ever stop believing that you dont make a difference between life and death because without you I wouldn't be here. One officer is being honored with a higher award. Troy Fleck is a detective with the Burleigh County Sheriff's Department. He, along with four other agencies, are responsible for investigating domestic violence cases. He says focusing on these cases helps the victims. (Troy Fleck/ Lifesaver Award) we recognize that there is a problem with domestic violence and often times it is tough to reach out for help when they do not have a trained support staff to get help from. Fleck says although he won the award, its the effort of all the law enforcement officers working together to help those people in domestic violence situations.  « Less
