It's a big change for schools around the region... The move this fall to all-day, everyday kindergarten. And this week, Bismarck Public Schools are getting ready for the move by hosting round-upevents at several elementary schools. Soon-to-be kindergarten students and their parents get a chance to meet the teachers and get acquainted with their school. (Jason Hornbacher, Centennial School Principal) Every parent that we've called or offered an opportunity to come in has taken advantage of the opportunity. I think they're as curious to get into Centennial or the schools as the kids are...and to kind of see who are the teachers at Centennial, especially if they're new parents, so. It eases anxiety right from the start so it's a very good thing. The event seems to be even more beneficial to parents and students new to the community. Parent Mike Pomarleau says the event lifted the mystery of a new school. (Mike Pomarleau, Parent of Soon-To-Be Kindergartner) There was a vision test, a hearing test...they run them through some quick tests on recognition of numbers and letters, shapes, things like that...with some instructions on some practice or homework we should be doing over the summer months to get them more ready for school this fall. The kindergarten round-ups continue today at Centennial, Miller, Myhre, and Will-Moore elementary schools.  « Less
