Congressman Earl Pomeroy says the Farm Bill is 99% done but lawmakers want more time to finish it... Good Afternoon, I'm Donnell Preskey... Lawmakers negotiated until the early morning hours on the farm bill and they say they're getting very close. However Congress has sent the White House a sixth extension of farm and nutrition programs. Negotiators are trying to complete a farm bill that can survive a presidential veto. They had hoped to finish this week so a final version could be debated on the House and Senate floor next week. But some key issues remain unresolved. (Rep. Earl Pomeroy / (D) ND) we have tryed to build a bill the President will sign, in the event he doesn't sign - we have buildt a bill with broad input from both parties from House and Senate - and if it comes to it we're prepared to override the President's veto. This bill is to important to farmers and those needing nutrition support. Pomeroy says the bill currently improves risk protection for farmers and better nutrition support for everyone struggline with higher grocery prices. The extension gives Congress two more weeks to finish the legislation.  « Less
