One non-profit organization is doing their best to help individuals turn their lives around. Reporter Sarah Gustin takes us into one home where the residents might not be related by blood, but they are definitely living in a family atmosphere. Chances are you have passed by this home, maybe you even drive by it daily, but you probably have no idea about what is going on inside. (Joy Sorenson / Exec. Director) The program is entiled YES Youth Enrichment Specialties and if you say it backwards it helps you to remmber-we do Special things to Enrich the lives of Young people. Youth Enrichment Specialities better known as the Yes program started almost 27 years ago. Four years ago a house was dedicated to the program. The home offers help to individuals who have been in prision or jail, so they can re-enter society as independent, productive adults. (Tina Grumbo / Yes House Volunteer) I love the idea of what it does. It is working with young people that maybe might be overlooked, might have fallen through the net somehow in terms of what is out their in the community in terms of support and this is a unique place for them. (joy talking) ....Nice big rooms, waiting for someone to come in, this one. Sorenson says they ask that anyone that does come to the house, be employed within 2 weeks. She says 20 percent of each of their pay checks goes towards living expenses. (Joy Sorenson / Exec. Director) We still keep in contact with those people that we have known formally and who have been in the yes program, we continue communitcation with those in prison. We call, we visit back and forth, to give them a little cheer up as they think about what the next part of their life is going to be. Now the non-profit program needs your help. They are hosting A High Tea for the Ladies. Part of the event includes TJ Maxx hosting a purse pizazz with models showcasing the latest purses and accessories. Reporting for KX news, I am Sarah Gustin. The event takes place this Sunday. You can purchase tickets beforehand at TJ Maxx or at the door the day of the event. « Less
