The Velva Aggies baseball team is off to a quick 7-2 start this season. The Aggies, who come in as the defending region champions, return only two starters off of last year's team so the team will have a few holes to fill. So far this season it's been the team's offense that has led the way and if the team's pitching comes around the Aggies are hoping to contend for a region title again. Mike Thingstad, Velva baseball coach:We have Trenton Bruner and Josh Weidler who are returning. Trenton was kind of our mainstay on the mound and at shortstop he'll be this year and then Josh is returning catcher but he'll see some first base and also some time on the mound. Josh Weidler, senior:You know we're young but a lot of the guys played legion or babe ruth so we're coming out playing hard, practicing hard every day. Our pitchers are throwing strikes, not many errors here and there and that helps but I guess we're putting the ball in play and running bases well helps too. Trenton Bruner, senior:Kind of unexpected I think but I think hitting this year is gonna be good now after these past few games we've did really well. The Aggies next action will be tomorrow when the team travels to Surrey for a region matchup.  « Less
