Ward County's Board of Commissioners has gone on record in opposition to changing the structure of Minot's sales tax collections. Supporters of the proposed Community Bowl stadium project are asking voters to OK the diversion of a part of the sales tax now devoted to paying for the Northwest Area Water Supply project to pay for the stadium plan. But today's 3-to-2 vote by the commissioners was designed to register the county board's feelings on the idea. Commissioner Jim Lee voted with Jerome Gruenberg and John Fjeldahl against changing the NAWS tax structure. Lee says it's not a vote against the community bowl, but rather against taking tax money from the NAWS fund to pay for it. « Less
