Since North Dakota has already had a state caucus does it do Barack Obama and Hillary CLinton any good politically to come to our state? Reporter Donnell Preskey sits down with our Democratic Political Analyst Heidi Heitkamp... Heidi Heitkamp says she expected Barack Obama to come to North Dakota after his big win in our state's caucus on Super Tuesday. The big surprise is Hillary Clinton. Heitkamp says Clinton is coming here to thank her supporters and continue her fight looking for any uncommitted votes. North Dakota Democrats has 7 super delegates six of them say they intend to vote for Obama. (Heitkamp) I think she's banking there's going to be some buyer remorse from those earlier primaries and she needs to be aggressive and active even in states where decisions have been made. That's why Heitkamp says North Dakota does still matter in the race for President... (Heitkamp) I don't think there's any state so small that it doesn't matter any more. It's an interesting cycle we're in. They're looking to MT, SD, small states and saying these states could be part of the decision. But even if Clinton could snatch all the super delegates votes in the nation Heitkamp says Clinton will have a tough time. I think there's such a slim chance that Hillary Clinton could get the nomination, the math just doesn't work for her. 12 states still have primaries and caucuses. June 10th is the last primary. Heitkamp predicts that's when we'll know who will be the Democrats candidate for U-S President. So how unusual is it to have Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton come to North Dakota? Here are some history tid-bits from political history buff Kevin Carvell of Fargo. At the Democratic NPL Convention in Bismarck in 1968 both candidates for the Democratic nomination for President appeared Hubert Humphrey and Eugene McCarthy. In 1964 over 100 thousand people came to a national plowing contest near Buffalo North Dakota to see Democrat Hubert Humphrey and Republican Barry Goldwater. « Less
