It's an honor only eight swimmers a year receive....the chance to compete in the YMCA Nationals. Next week, 8 swimmers, 4 boys and 4 girls from Minot will travel to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where they will try their hand at competition from all over the country. It's a chance to see where you rank and is quite an honor. Nancy Beck, Swim Coach:You have to have times, it goes totally by times and the times are tough, they are a lot harder than the state qualifying times they are used to. All season long during highschool, they are looking at the highschool times and they are trying to get those but in the back of their minds, they are always thinking of this meet too so it's a fun meet for them to qualify for and its a big honor. Maggi Beck, MHS Junior:I am looking forward to the competition down there, it is not every day you get to have that much competition, and I am looking to have fun. This is my third year making it this year I qualified in seven more than last year and I worked a lot harder to get more to go down there to swim. Rob Gokey, MHS Senior:It is going to be interesting to finally go down there to see something new that I haven't bveen racing against for the past four years I guess. It's just a chance to meet new people, see how you fare, it's a way to see what's out there. The meet begins tomorrow in Ft Lauderdale and runs through Friday.  « Less
