The 'Grand-daddy of them all' is almost upon us, as later this week, the State B Boys Basketball tournament tips off in Fargo and Mott-Regent plans to make the most out of their spot in the 'Great Eight.' Tia Streeter has more. (Tia Streeter:) Most kids dream of the state tournament, but never have the chance to experience one, let alone two. Yet Mott Regent is going back to Fargo in back to back seasons, after winning the Football championship just 4 months ago. (Devan Laufer:) It gonna be great to play at a different court of the Fargo Dome and try to do it in basketball too and try to bring a championship home (Elliot Kirschmann:) It's every kids dream we've been talking about it since we were little you know 7th and 8th grade that we were gonna go to state in every sport or at least try so its cool that thats been happening now (John Butterfield:) It gives us the championship expereince it was alluded to after the region there was a lot of tension on our opponents side and our kids were quite relazed and I think it had to do with the out come of the game we've been through the fumbulitous of the state championship football game, and they operated like they had been there many many times before (Tia Streeter:) The Wildfire haven't just breezed through the season, they had to playback through Districts, and face the problem of not having a big guy down low on the blocks. (Blaise Kautzman:) people under estimate us because we have no big guy but we try to act as big as we can down there and get it in (Devan Laufer:) It's been a good season but there's been wake up moments where we realized we can't just go out there and win every game like it was in football we realized that we have to come out and play. (Tia Streeter:) There's a tradition of winning in Mott, but this is the first time they've been to state since consolidating, and not only is the community tradition rich, but Coach Butterfield has led 7 teams to the State B. (John Butterfield:) we have that tradition here where people really love the game (Elliot Kirschmann:) It's amazing he made basketball fun and exciting again and he makes it simple if you have your fundmanetals you know you're gonna do well. (Tia Streeter:) Coach Butterfield says this team is a once in a lifetime team, and he says that if they go down in the state tournament, they'll go down battling. For KX Sports, I'm Tia Streeter. The Wildfire will face Watford City in the quarterfinals on Thursday. That game tips off at 6:30 p.m. central time. Other quarterfinals include LaMoure against Four Winds, Turtle-Lake Mercer matching up with Minot Ryan and Lisbon battling Grafton. « Less
