It's back to the state A boys Basketball tournament for the 4th ranked Minot High boys basketball team. The Magicians come in as the 2nd seed from the west and will meet up with 3rd ranked Fargo South in opening round play. The matchup will be the first between the two schools since 1990 when Minot High beat the Bruins in the semi-finals. The Magicians are looking for their first state title since 1999 and know they'll be get a big test right off the bat from a Bruins team that features plenty of size and athleticism. Gene Manson, MHS boys basketball coach:They're extremely athletic. Most of their kids started last year and they were in the state last year and almost upset Bismarck the first round so we know we're gonna have our hands full. They got a 6'7 point guard that's an excellent basketball player and I think every college in probably three states is probably after him so we know we're gonna have our hands full. It's gonna take a good effort on our part to get a win that night. Our kids are hungry right now Mike, they like what they did in that championship game and that's the key thing. If we weren't hungry I'd be a little bit nervous but I think they're ready to go. Zac Elgie, senior:For what 9 of us on the team it's our last weekend of games and you know we're gonna go out there and bust our tails and work real hard and hopefully if we do that and don't leave anything back, I think maybe we'll be in that championship game. Ryne Hornecker, senior:This is it. This has been the goal all year to reach the championship and you know we're in the state tournament now so we got to put our three best games. Hopefully with our career on the line Thursday, Friday and Saturday hopefully get the job done.  « Less
