47 puppies and six cats have been turned over to the Burleigh County Sheriff's Department. Lila Peterson of Bismarck handed the pets over to authorities on Saturday. Burleigh County Sheriff Pat Heinert says Peterson has been the subject of an investigation. He says investigators found the animals living conditions to be poor with food scattered around on the floor. 27-of the dogs were taken by the Paws rescue organization of Jamestown. The rest of the puppies have been placed at the Bismarck Animal Impound. A veterinarian was called in over the weekend to check over the dogs. One of the puppies has been diagnosed to have parvo. It's a disease that affects a dogs intestines. Each of the dogs has to be given shots at a cost of eighteen dollars each. Sheriff Heinert says they are looking for people to make donations to help pay for the shots.
