Hello on this Monday, March 3 2008. I'm Rebecca Field in for Kristin Volk with your UPI top news update. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is speaking out against the U.S. presence in Iraq. The President spent two days in Iraq, meeting with Iraq's leaders and reportedly trying to make closer ties with the country. In a press conference earlier today, Ahmadinejad said foreigners are not welcome by the regional nations. He added major powers should leave Iraq. The leader has previously called on the U.S. to withdraw troops from the region. Presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are gearing up for another round of big contests. The two have spent the weekend campaigning in Ohio and Texas...voters in those two states along with Rhode Island and Vermont will vote tomorrow. Polls are too close to call in Ohio and Texas as of now but campaign advisors say it's important for Clinton's campaign that she wins these states. Even her husband Bill Clinton has said she needs to take both states or she'll face more difficulty in beating Obama. Israeli officials are pulling troops from Gaza...ending a five-day offensive targeting Palestinian militants. Palestinian medical sources say the fighting has caused more than 110 Palestinian deaths since it began. Israeli military officials say two Israeli soldiers were killed. The offensive came as a response to dozens of rockets fired into southern Israel last week. U.S. officials say the military used missiles to strike a terror target in Somalia. The military has yet to confirm the amount of casualties but reportedly 3 women and 3 children have been killed and 20 people are wounded. The U.S. official says the strike targeted a known terrorist target in a village near the Kenyan border. He added the attack was deliberate and the military tried to avoid hitting civilians. That's all for now. Tune in tomorrow for another Upi news update. « Less
